Carol Jean Woods

Carol Jean Woods, age 84, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2023 after a hard-fought battle with dementia. Carol was born in Terry, WV on March 28, 1939 where her and her family attended Terry Community Church. She was one of nine daughters to the late Arnold Abney and Anna (McCormick) McMillion, who predeceased her in death. Carol grew up in a large, loving family with 4 brothers and 8 sisters. A proud coalminer’s daughter, she enjoyed helping around the home especially taking her father’s lunch to him at the mines. She was a supportive wife, mom, and loving grandmother who enjoyed her life as a homemaker. She had many talents in the kitchen, but her love for gardening and roses won her numerous award winning ribbons in several categories in her local rose society. In her later years, Carol developed a love for fishing with her husband, Jerry. She was always successful, claiming her success of luring them was thanks to her hypnotic saying, “Fishy, fishy in the brook, wrap your mouth around my hook.” She was the pride and joy of her loving husband, Jerry of 41 years. She will be dearly missed by her daughters; Peggy Sue Farley Guy of Hurricane, Robin (Joe Camp) of Senoia, Georgia, and son; Chris (Jaimie Woods) and grandchildren; David, Kelli, Laura, Erin, Devin, Moira, Mitchell, Aubrey, Hannah and Marah, 6 great-grandchildren and two surviving sisters; Joyce Carter of Beckley and Shirley Dykes of Victoria Texas; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Elizabeth Ann Farley (Roger Callahan). The family would like to give thanks for her exceptional care from CAMC Teays Valley Hospital medical staff. We have comfort in knowing she is in the presence of her savior The family will hold a celebration of life at a later date Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
